freyja

t. picked me up, and said, 'you'll do.' then she sat down with me on her lap and read me the story of the goddess freyja, because today is her celebration day. i liked the bits about her being a patroness of cats. i was very thrilled to know that she drives a chariot drawn by two cats, and fancied myself in the image of a sleek chariot cat. ooh, sexy. i amost fell on the floor when she said that freyja's cats are named bygul/bee-gold/honey and trjegul/tree-gold/AMBER. fancy that! then t. started reading poetry. ahem, i have been corrected, it was ritual, but it sounds like poetry to me. i napped through most of it, but sneaked a peek at her book and then figured out why she said that i'll do. in the ritual, it said to wear an amber necklace or hold amber. humpf.

rampage!

while t. and grannyjay were out shopping for cat delacies at whole foods, i had the best rampage through the house. i pulled down all the kitchen towels and potholders, and dragged one into the back hall, where i artfully crumpled it in a simple yet elegant postmodern arrangement. i scattered all the rugs that could be scattered. then, for the coup de grace, i pulled on the dangling fibres on t's artist books, and managed to knock a fair number of them onto the floor. then i scattered some other books, just for good measure.

i don't know why t. was so worried that i would play with the yule tree. ick. i'm not getting balsam sap on my delicate little paws. and it stinks, like all those pungent essential oils that t. uses. no wonder they can't appreciate a delicate odor; they burn their noses on all their gross bottled scents.

yule was rather jolly, other than an excessive amount of poetry at sunrise while a cat waited impatiently for her breakfast. Eating yummy tidbits by the yule log fire, the night before, was the highlight, but i don't understand why the humans persist in wrapping them in cloth or paper first. it's just too diffy when you don't have any thumbs, and i prefer to indulge in paper shredding after i have eaten and washed up, thank you.

tonight is a huge holiday for many of t and grannyjay's friends who celebrate in a different tradition. i think this is at least the third or fourth of these holidays, and there are more than i can count on one paw. i think they just like to celebrate. period. with a little catly wisdom, they might see that it is all about bringing light to a dark night, which is important to those who cannot see in the dark.

wishing hugs and purs to all,

amber moon

a day in the life of an abyssinian

t. was good enough to setup a journal for me. something about not wanting the world to think she naps all day. and what's wrong with that? there are so many places to sleep in this house that it takes a weeks worth of napping to cover all of them.

last night was cold, brrrr, so i slept under the duvet with t. she was really nice this morning, and heated my breakfast in the microwave. she is well trained and i think i will keep her on staff.

maybe i should give her a holiday bonus this year. one year i left a mouse on the foot of her bed as a bonus, but t. is strange and isn't very appreciative of gifts, the first thing in the morning.

the bed isn't made yet, so i'm going back for another nap in the rumples of the duvet.
